OVERVIEW
The ISKGA FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS I-II-II
As paddlers progress through the three fundamental skill levels, they work toward becoming capable expedition team members. Along the way, they develop their abilities in paddle techniques, seamanship, camp craft, and navigation, while also learning how to contribute effectively to group objectives during expeditions.
FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS I
This course covers the essential fundamentals of paddling a sea kayak on the sea or large lakes. The module also includes key elements of sea safety, navigation, and camp craft.
FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS II
Here we focus on refining techniques for controlling your sea kayak in wind, waves, and currents, while expanding your knowledge of sea safety, navigation, and camp craft. You will improve your overall paddling ability and further develop your skills as an expedition team member.
FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS III
More advanced sea kayaking skills focusing on controlling kayaks in more challenging conditions of wind, waves, surf, and tide, while further enhancing sea safety, navigation, and camp craft. Techniques for dynamic environments are more deeply developed, including dynamic edging, leaning, bracing, and recovery skills.
Completing the three fundamental skill levels will help you become more proficient in kayak handling, seamanship, rescue and recovery, camp craft, and navigation.
