OVERVIEW
Across the Oslofjord – and back!
Two-day sea kayaking expedition across the fjord
Join Norvantur and Ut i det fri for a unique two-day sea kayaking journey where we cross the Oslofjord – not just once, but twice.
This trip offers a fantastic opportunity to cross the fjord in a safe and supportive setting while exploring some of the most beautiful areas of the outer Oslofjord. We begin on the eastern side of the fjord at Djupeklo in Fredrikstad and set course for our first stop at the beautiful Missingene islands. After a break, we continue our crossing towards the iconic Fulehuk lighthouse before finding a suitable place to camp in Færder National Park. Here we will enjoy the evening by the sea and perhaps a magical sunset.
On day two the adventure continues. We paddle north towards the Bolærne islands before once again crossing the fjord towards Rauer. From there we follow the coastline back to Djupeklo, enjoying the stunning coastal landscape along the way. In total, the trip covers approximately 50 km over the course of the weekend.
Safety and good experiences are our main priorities. Weather and sea conditions will influence our route choices, and if conditions require it we may move the starting point to the western side of the fjord or choose an alternative route for the weekend.
This is an exposed coastal trip suitable for paddlers who:
Have completed the NPF Sea Kayak Technique Course (Teknikkurs hav) or have equivalent experience
Are comfortable paddling in winds up to 8–10 m/s and moderate waves
Are able to paddle 20–25 km in a day
Have experience with overnight trips and paddling a fully loaded sea kayak
Are able to perform assisted rescues in waves
This is a social and adventurous weekend for paddlers who enjoy longer journeys and want to challenge themselves in exposed waters. Over the course of two days we experience both the eastern and western sides of the Oslofjord, with long paddling days, open crossings and spectacular coastal scenery.
The trip provides valuable experience in expedition-style sea kayaking within a safe framework, together with skilled guides and motivated paddlers . A weekend filled with achievement, good ambiance and authentic coastal adventure.
